Location –

Cancun is located in the northern part of the state Quintana Roo. The island of Cancun is shaped like the number “7” where many of the hotels are located and borders the Caribbean Sea.

Weather –

Cancun boasts year round sunshine making it ideal for a vacation at any time of year. Cancun weather is tropical and humid with year round sunshine. The temperature ranges from 20° to 30° C from October through to March and from 22° to 33° C from April to September.

Getting around –

It is very easy and cost effective to travel around Cancun by bus to shopping and tourist sites.
You can always find a taxi in Cancun, but make sure you check the fare before you get in. A list of regular fares can be found in the lobby of most hotels or you can ask the concierge.

Currency –

The official currency in Cancun is the Mexican peso but American dollars are also widely accepted. Banks are open Monday-Friday from 9am to 4pm but there are exchange houses found all over Cancun that are open much later.

Language spoken –

In Cancun the official language is Spanish, however most Mexicans working the tourism industry speak English. Many of the indigenous people still speak Mayan as their first language and you may even hear them speaking it amongst themselves.

Electricity –

The standard Cancun electricity supply is 110 volts, therefore you will not need convertors unless you are bringing 220 volt devices (hotels will often offer convertors).

What To Do:

Shopping –

There are options for every type of shopper in Cancun! You can choose anything from the Mercado 28 – a handicrafts market – to the very modern shopping mall Plaza Las Americas or Luxury Avenue filled with designer stores. There are more than 2,000 stores to choose from in the Hotel Zone and in the downtown area!

Golf –

There are championship golf courses throughout Cancun and nearby Riviera Maya which meet the highest standards set by expert golfers and often host professional tournaments. As an added bonus they are located among beautiful natural scenery!

Nightlife –

There is no doubt Cancun is well known the world over for its nightlife. This includes famous dance clubs, parties, festivals, restaurants, shows and live bands. Many popular artists and DJs often have live shows in Cancun.

Some of the most well-known and popular clubs are Cocobongo, Dady’O, Grand Mambo Cafe, Mandala, Senor Frog’s and The City. All of which use features such as special effects and state of the art light shows as well as non-stop music of different genres. You can purchase special passes locally and they offer deals such as all you can drink cover charges and transportation to and from the clubs.

Riviera Maya –

Just an hour and a half drive away is the beautiful tourist destination of Riviera Maya. There are many day trips sold by your tour operator as well as local hotels to popular eco tourist sites, archeological ruins as well as shopping.

Tulum, Chichen Itza and Coba are some of the most popular archaeological spots to visit in Mexico. If you are interested in eco-tourism you will love Xel-ha which is a nature park and lagoon where you can snorkel or swim with dolphins.

If you love to shop Playa del Carmen’s 5th Avenue will definitely not disappoint with many high end retailers as well as restaurants and fun things to see along the way such as street performers.
